Dr. Camacho & Dr. Burks and his team encourage you to schedule an appointment before the kids go back to school. Here are some tips for what your child’s visit will look like.

Why Is A Back-to-School Checkup Important?

The back-to-school dental appointment is the perfect time to discuss any concerns you have, as Dr. Camacho & Dr. Burks and his dental team will be looking at your child’s overall oral health. This appointment is also a great time to talk about some new habits. If your child isn’t brushing as often or as well, focus on it now to ensure they are in the habit for the school year.

What Will the Dentist Do During the Appointment?Dental Examination and Cleaning

A full and thorough dental examination is done to make sure your child’s teeth, gums, and overall oral health are excellent. Even for the best brushers, we’ll also perform a dental cleaning to get rid of bacteria that can lead to cavities. This exam will also include x-rays if your child has not had them recently.

Preventive Resin Restorations

For those with cavities or parents who wish to protect the teeth from them, preventive resins can be a good place to start. Although they are no substitute for proper brushing and flossing, we may recommend them for your child. A preventive resin is a permanent filling placed on the chewing surfaces of your child’s permanent back teeth (called molars). Once they’re on, preventive resins work to keep cavity-causing bacteria and bits of food from settling into the nooks and crannies your child’s toothbrush can’t reach. This helps keep cavities from forming and tiny existing spots of decay from getting worse. Our team is happy to answer any questions about them, too!
